Akvile Gedraityte joins World Cycling Center

Lithuanian individual road race champion Akvilė Gedraitytė (18) will be wearing the WCC team jersey in 2020. Last year she was coached by Vytautas Indreliūnas and Vitalija Breivienė riding for cycling club Fortuna from Panevežys.

UCI believes that Akvilė Gedraitytė (4th in European Championships 2019) has great potential and ability to race at the International level. Akvile participated in a UCI talent camp in Switzerland in late autumn and she was one of the 4 girl's selected from 10 participants in that camp.

“First of all I am a bit anxious, because I have always been working alone without team support. I think it will be a great challenge to learn and understand what it means to be in a team. Everyone should be realistic and understand that next year will be difficult for me to enter women's elite races, since I am not a junior anymore. Deep inside my heart I believe that I can be somewhere close to the best riders of the world”, confessed Akvilė Gedraitytė.

WCC team will have riders from 9 nationalities- Belarus, Barbados, Czech Republic, Chile, Ethiopia, Israel, Canada, Lithuania & Slovakia.

The first meeting with other girls will be during the training camp in the beginning of February and the first race in the teams' calendar is meant to be Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in Belgium.
