Caleb Ewan was the fastest in Stirling

Caleb Ewan (Lotto Soudal) won the second stage of the Santos Tour Down Under ahead of Daryl Impey (Mitchelton Scott) and Nathan Haas (Cofidis Credit Solutions). The last five kilometers are slightly uphill in that famous Stirling finish and many sprinters struggled on that climb to keep the pace of the main punch.

There was a big crash 1,5km to go and about 30 riders were left in the group for the final sprint. Caleb Ewan is also the new overall leader of the Tour at the moment. Yesterday's winner Sam Bennett (Deceuninck-QuickStep) was fourth. Martin Laas and his Bora Hansgrohe teammates had a bad day as their protected rider Jay McCarthy was involved in the late crash and they had nobody in the front group. Luckily it didn't affect Jay's GC plans as he was credited the same time with the winner.
