Rudy Barbier wins the first stage of Vuelta a San Juan

Not many expected Rudy Barbier (Israel-Start Up Nation) to win a sprint in the Argentinian tour, but the French sprinter himself told before the race that he wants to win here. All worked out perfectly for him as he jumped out from the field at the very last moment and profited from the work other sprinter teams had done in the final. Israel-Start Up Nation had many riders up in the front during the last 5 kilometers of the race, but they never managed to pull the punch with their own sprint train. Rudy's Estonian teammate Norman Vahtra finished 12th, McCage and Hofstetter 16th & 17th.

The triple World Champion Peter Sagan (Bora Hansgrohe) finished 6th.
