Sam Bennett won the first stage of the Santos Tour Down Under

The men's World Tour started today in Australia, Adelaide with the first stage of the Santos Tour Down Under. The punch had to fight with some crosswinds at the final straights, but it was ment to be a punch sprint on the 30km long circuit around Tanunda from the beginning on.

Sam Bennett was pleased to win straight away the first one for his new team, Deceuninck-Quick-Step: "I think it was definitely a job of the team. I think it's the reason why I won today and I'd be lying if I didn't feel the pressure coming to Deceuninck-Quick-Step to get that first win. The guys did an absolutely fantastic job and kept me in position. Every one of them played a superb role today and I can't thank them enough."

Martin Laas and his Bora Hansgrohe teammates helped today their Slovakian sprinter Erik Baška, who finished third.

Baška is the European U23 road race Champion from 2015, it happend in Martin's hometown Tartu. The Estonian finished 6th at this race- now the two sprinters from small Eastern-European countries are working together in the World Tour team.
