Schachmann won the crazy opening stage of the Paris-Nice, Neilands & Kangert Top20

The riders in the Paris Nice had a hard opening day with twisty roads, rain and crosswinds, the cherry on the top of it was the last 1,5km long cobbled climb 5km to go. The main field split into many smaller groups in the final and 4 men strong group formed in the final of the stage. It was Maximillian Schachmann (Bora Hansgrohe), who finally won ahead of Dylan Teuns (Bahrein McLaren) & Tiesj Benoot (Team Sunweb). Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck Quickstep) looked the strongest of the four, but lost his legs in the final straight and finished 4th. Krists Neilands (Israel Start Up Nation) and Tanel Kangert (EF Pro Cycling) came in the following bigger group 15 seconds later finishing 16th and 20th.

Nippo Delko One Provence's Lithuanians Evaldas Šiškevičius and Ramunas Navardauskas finished a bit further away 51st and 111th.
