Video: Fernando Gaviria won the second stage of Vuelta San Juan
The 2nd stage of Vuelta San Juan was flat with a long finishing straight and there was a lot of fighting at the final to get the right position. Fernando Gaviria (UAE-Team Emirates) was the fastest coming from the 15th position 200m to go, he just passed everybody in the sprint to the line on the wide opened road. The stage saw also some crashes. First one happened already after 20km into the race, caused by a dog crossing the road at the front of the day's breakaway. A bigger punch crash 13km to go involved also the Latvian rider Bogdanovics Maris (Amore & Vita- Prodir). Maris finished 141st, 3m22s down and the other Latvian rider from the same continental team, Viesturs Lukševics finished 136th, 1m8s down. The Estonian lead out man for Israel-Start Up Nation, Norman Vahtra, hit the front 5km to go protecting yesterday's winner Rudy Barbier, who was finally 17th of the stage and he is 2nd behind Gaviria in GC now. Norman finished on 49th position, their best man was today Travis McCabe, 6th.
